A Muppet Christmas: Letters To Santa on The CW TONIGHT!

Back on December 17, 2008 A MuppetsChristmas: Letters to Santa premiered on NBC.

It's Christmas Eve, and Kermit, Miss Piggy, Fozzie and Gonzo are finishing up their errands before heading off on a Caribbean vacation. When Gonzo's curiosity causes mayhem at the post office, he mistakenly leaves with some letters addressed to Santa, including one from his young neighbor, Claire. Determined to follow through on his promise to mail them for her, Gonzo persuades his friends to forego their vacation and instead set out for the North Pole to deliver the letters directly to Santa.

Directed by Kirk R. Thatcher. This was also the fourth time that songwriter Paul Williams has contributed songs to the Muppets.

The special originally premiered to solid ratings. Headlines read:

Puppet glow: NBC’s ‘Muppet’s’ is tops
New Christmas special averages a 2.4 in 18-49s

The Muppets proved much more popular than NBC’s attempt at a Christmas special last week. Last night’s A Muppet’s Christmas: Letters to Santa won its timeslot.
Muppet’s averaged a 2.4 adults 18-49 rating, according to Nielsen overnights, up 71 percent over last week’s NBC special Little Spirit: Christmas in New York, which managed a mere 1.4 in the 8 p.m. timeslot.
Muppet’s managed to win its timeslot by 0.2 over Fox’s Secret Millionaire, a rare feat for NBC this season in the slot. Regular timeslot occupant Knight Rider has been preempted the past several weeks for holiday specials after sinking to series lows in November.
Muppet’s, a new special in which a cast of celebrities help the Muppets get a trio of letters to Santa on Christmas Eve, is the highest-rated show in the slot for the network in weeks.

Last year the special aired on The CW. It made headlines again with surprisingly strong ratings 4 years after its premiere. So much so, The CW even put out a press release about it:

A MUPPETS CHRISTMAS
Gives The CW Best Time Period Numbers of the Season in Viewers and Key Demos

December 1, 2011 (Burbank, CA) – The Muppets got things started on The CW last night, with A MUPPETS CHRISTMAS propelling the network to its most watched Wednesday night in a year (2.16 million) and its highest rated Wednesday night of the season among adults 18-49 (0.8/2) and women 18-49 (1.1/3), according to preliminary Live Plus Same Day Nielsen ratings for Wednesday, Nov. 30, 2011.

A MUPPETS CHRISTMAS averaged 2.4 million viewers, the best in the time period since Dec. 8, 2010.  Among adults 18-34 (0.8/3), women 18-34 (1.1/3), adults 18-49 (0.8/2) and women 18-49 (1.0/3), it was the best ratings for the time period since April 13, 2011. The children 2-11 rating (1.3) was the best in the time period since Sept. 19, 2007.

It is nice to see that after 5 years, this special continues to get shown on Network Television.
