UPDATE: Possible "Labyrinth" Sequel

Fan sites went a little wild on Friday when they stumbled upon a bit of news that The Jim Henson Company was working on a sequel to "Labyrinth", the bizarre, beloved 1986 fantasy starring Jennifer Connelly and David Bowie.

But, sources tell EW that’s not the full truth. While they are working on a "Fraggle Rock" movie and a "Dark Crystal" sequel, as the original Variety article stated, there are currently no plans to reboot, revive, or make a sequel to "Labyrinth". It’s one of those legacy titles that is floated at most meetings, but, sadly, nothing is actually in development at the moment.

  1. I am hoping this doesn't happen. Without Jim Henson's creative mind it just seems like a way to make money off of the classic. Sadly, Jim never got to see the long-term success & gain of "Labyrinth". It was the final film he directed before his untimely death in 1990, and was considered a financial loss because of its lower box office profit compared to its massive budget. The results marked a very low period in Henson's life in which his marriage, family, and career all suffered.
I am tired of sequels & remakes. There is no way possible to match the tone & originality of the first film, so why bother? It's all about money which sadly makes movie-goers the guiltier ones for making successes out of bad movies. There are rare exceptions...this, I'm certain, is not one of those exceptions however.

  2. It wasn't that low of a period. As for this, a sequel might not work, but a pre-quel might (or not).
