The live-action show has been renewed by TVO (Ontario), City Saskatchewan (Saskatchewan) and Knowledge Network (British Columbia). Season two (39 x seven minutes) will be produced by marblemedia, in association with The Jim Henson Company. Principal photography has already started in Toronto.
marblemedia’s Mark Bishop and Matt Hornburg are executive producing, along with Marie McCann, TVO’s executive in charge for children’s & parents media, creator Barbara Slade (Angelina Ballerina, Rugrats) and Halle Stanford, Henson’s EVP of children’s entertainment.
Along with new episodes, the "Hi Opie!" website will be getting new features, including games, and a mobile app. Henson handles worlwide distribution outside of Canada, Australia and France, which is covered by marblemedia-owned Distribution360.
Season one was recently licensed to Netflix in the US, UK, Australia and New Zealand.
