Warburtons Muppets Campaign Named as Best Christmas TV Advertisement

Warburtons has risen to the top of the Christmas advert charts – with the help of the Muppets.

The Bolton-based baker's television advert starring the Muppets has been declared the most successful Christmas ad of 2015.

Brand research firm Millward Brown asked consumers to rate this year's crop of Christmas adverts, and The Giant Crumpet Show came out on top.

The advert beat the likes of John Lewis’s highly anticipated Man on the Moon and Sainsbury's popular Mog's Christmas Calamity.

Mark Simester, Warburtons’ Marketing Director, said: "For our Giant Crumpets advert to be singled out by UK consumers as their favourite is a huge honour.

"Rather than look to pull on the nation's heartstrings this Christmas, we wanted to set a fun tone with our Muppets extravaganza for the launch of our Giant Crumpets – while we take our baking seriously, we don't like to take ourselves too seriously as a brand, and the Muppets perfectly reflect Warburtons' sense of fun and family.

“The impact of the campaign so far has surpassed our expectations."

Viewers evaluated 18 television adverts but found Warburtons' the most engaging to watch and the most likely to make them buy as a result of seeing it.

Coming in second was Cadbury’s Free the Joy which went beyond the TV with the chocolate company delivering advent calendars to consumers on the street, followed by Paypal's 'no present' advert featuring two brothers questioning why their parents had not gone out shopping for presents, not realising they were doing it all online.

However emotional or cute others were, they failed to stop Muppetmania and Jim Henson's puppet creations delighting audiences in the ad which sees the group bake up a storm to try and persuade boss Jonathan Warburton to join them in their latest spectacle as they sing and dance their way around the bakery.

Mr Warburton, chairman of Warburtons, said: “We’ve had a great response to the campaign – we set out to bring some joy and fun to advertising at Christmas, and this is proof that we achieved it with The Giant Crumpet Show.

"The Muppets were our ideal partners in this, as their sense of family and humour fits perfectly with Warburtons – and they were great fun to work with.”
