Okay, now it’s time to start the music and light the lights.
As The Muppets prepares for its midseason return to ABC’s Tuesday night schedule, the folks behind the felt behind Up Late With Miss Piggy are pulling out a secret weapon — or, over 60 secret weapons — to usher in the return.
Led by Piggy, Gonzo, Kermit, and Fozzie, dozens of familiar faces from Jim Henson’s cast of characters are featured in a new musical promo for ABC’s sitcom reboot, including a cadre of recognizable yet lesser-utilized Muppets that haven’t yet had a chance to shine on primetime in this era.
What’s more is that the gang is singing the classic ’70s Muppet Show theme song, which hasn’t been expressly utilized in ABC’s 2015 television iteration. Brief hints of the melody only score the ending button of the series’ opening title sequence.
In the new video, casual fans should be able to spot dozens of their favorite peripheral Muppet characters. There’s Droop! The Snowths! The singing cactuses! The Mahnamahna guy!
Some may even find their way into the refreshed, revamped The Muppets that viewers will encounter when the show returns on Feb. 2 in its new timeslot — but not all the music promo’s returnees are making the cut. Say hello to Lew Zealand, but don’t plan for the singing watermelon to join the office pool.
The Muppets airs on Tuesdays at 8:30 p.m. ET on ABC.
