NBCUniversal’s 24-hour preschool network Sprout has tapped September 2016 for the premiere of Dot., a new original animated series based on Randi Zuckerberg’s popular kids book and produced by Industrial Brothers (Yup Yups, Gummandos) in association with The Jim Henson Company and the Canadian Broadcasting Company.
Targeting kids 4-7, the series follows inquisitive, exuberant, tech-savvy Dot on her hilarious adventures to satisfy her imagination, curiosity and latest passion. For Dot, there’s no better way to enjoy the day than outside exploring the world with her dog, friends and any tool or piece of technology that will enhance their play and exploration.
This is the first toon for Zuckerberg, who also runs the modern lifestyle community and blog Dot Complicated. Dot. was inspired by Zuckerberg’s passion to motivate and inspire young girls to develop an early love and appreciation for technology, math and sciences.
Industrial Brothers’ Matthew Fernandes and Tammy Semen join Jim Henson Co.’s Lisa Henson and Halle Stanford as well as Zuckerberg as exec producers on the show. Yalda Uhls, director of creative community partnerships at Common Sense Media and senior research scientist at UCLA’s Children’s Digital Media Center @ LA serves as curriculum consultant. Jim Henson Co. handles all media rights outside of Canada, and all consumer product rights worldwide.
